    Karl’s Final Festival Blog

    Thursday, April 28th, 2011

    It’s over.
Like the classics say, “The circus has left town.”
    “The fat lady has sung.”
“The front of the Town Hall is no longer filled by desperate interstate comics trying to fill empty rooms with “special” two-for-one deals.”
    Classics.

Once the final Sunday is done and everyone’s last shows are over, there’s a collective breathing-out by comics across the city. See you in a week. What’re these potato cakes doing in here?”

The success of online comedy video is difficult to gauge. It would be easy to say that the most successful online productions are simply the videos with the most views, but often it’s productions with very few views that gain media attention, which could result in commercial success in the long run. If we were to list the top 5 online comedy creators based on view count alone, they would consist of Sydney video blogger Natalie Tran (360 million views) and a whole lot kittens falling over.

Therefore, in compiling the following list of comedy creators, several factors were considered: view count, mainstream media attention, industry attention and the content must be scripted narrative comedy (no video bloggers or home videos). We’ll cover video bloggers and Natalie Tran later.
